7770HD Crossfire Not Working!

So I finally managed to get a Crossfire Bridge and a Molex > PCI-E connector, but now I'm having problems with Crossfire.

Catalyst Control Center sometimes does not detect second card (detects it exists, doesn't detect core speed, temps, power, etc.)
I freeze sometimes when opening multiple things at once (For example I'd open Firefox, and before it displays firefox I'd try and access CCC). It also freezes at launch of Skyrim

I've reinstalled CCC and CAP multiple times but to no avail, so I'm wondering if you guys could be of some assistance? If I have to uninstall the drivers please give step-by-step instructions. I generally uninstall in control panel, then reboot into safe mode and use driver sweeper, then reboot and install CCC again, but that doesn't seem to work.

EDIT: I can't even disable Crossfire in CCC because it just causes both monitors to turn black and says "lost signal".

run driver sweeper to remove all the tiny files remaining of CCC then reinstall.

Already did that. Is there supposed to be specific modes (safe and regular) where I do this? Am I supposed to do something with .Net Framework? Also, I've noticed that I never get a green checkmark at install; it always gives me a "?" but no error report.

Maybe your system doesn't have enough power.

I'm using the OCZ GameXStream. It is "SLI Ready" 700W PSU.

that's fine too.

I'm not too familiar with cables, so I just plugged in that converter into a random Female Molex Convertor sticking out of my PSU, is that a problem?

Reinstalled correctly this time, (green checkmark) but I still cannot disable crossfire, or play Skyrim using crossfire, and sometimes even normal things freeze because of crossfire. I knew crossfire would give me issues, but I didn't expect it to be THIS bad.

I think I may have to update my BIOS? (It says XFire ready, though...) but how do I update it? When I download the BIOS update for my P5Q-E from the website it comes as a .ROM, not sure how to deal with that.

EDIT: While I'm at it, how do I tell my computer that my monitor has no audio? It is connected with HDMI (no choice...) and it keeps asking me for an audio device to output.

Updated BIOS so I can rule that out of the picture (was so sure of that too!). Nobody else has any idea?

Why are you using a molex to PCIe adapter? A 700W SLI PSU should have two (more like should have four) 6pin PCIe plugs. The 7770 only needs one each so you shouldn't even be using the adapter. Try using the plugs on your PSU, don't use the adapters, and make sure each card gets its power from a different set of wires.

Because I am an idiot who couldn't find the second PCIe plug.

I found it just now and connected it, but it didn't help. Still froze while booting Skyrim.

EDIT: Actually froze while pressing the "options" on the launcher just now as well.

History on the cards? One of them used? Have you tried them one at a time to make sure they both work?

Got them both yesterday, both work single-card just fine. Just tried a fresh W7 boot and it didn't work either.

After a second fresh install, and being super duper careful, I found out that when enabling crossfire my screen flickers black, then green then comes back.

EDIT: ...
I got really mad at my computer and now crossfire works....

I'm pretty sure my computer isn't sentient, so for anyone else who may be having this problem I say this:

Fresh W7 Install
Install Catalyst 12.7 Beta
Disable Crossfire
Reboot
Enable Crossfire
Install Direct X 10
Launch and hope for the best!
Optional: Tell your computer you'll throw it out the window.

Spoke too soon, rebooted and the problem came back.

I doubt selling it would get much, and I really don't have the money to buy new. I might just sell the second card and live with a single 7770HD if I can't fix the problem by today, though.

hey, did you test your cards individually?

Yes, I did. Both work fine individually. Well by "test" I just ran Skyrim to see if it would boot. Did you mean something like benchmarking either one?

the issue seems more likely driver related. remove the current driver and install old one like 12.1

Where can I find the download for 12.1?

Yeah I use driver sweeper. My next question is why would I use 12.1 when it doesn't support 7XXX cards (to my knowledge)?

I got it working once with 12.7, so it is possible. Just not sure why it stopped after.

does it work again?

1) Make sure bridge is on
2) Download Driver Sweeper here.
3) Download Catalyst 12.7beta drivers here but don't install.
4) Custom uninstall AMD software and select everything and reboot.
5) Run Driver Sweeper and clean AMD drivers and reboot.
6) Re-install CCC and reboot.

If you have any other PCI devices plugged in, take them out.

Tried above and failed. I'm going to switch the card slots one more time.

Switching slots also did not work. At this point I'm going to return both tomorrow morning.

Got it to work again for a single start up. I even managed to do 3DMark11 without crashing (my graphics score was around the same ballpark as others, physics and combined were garbage). After I rebooted, though, it all went to hell once more. Can't even play FIFA. I think I ruled out hardware issue with both cards going through 3DMark11, but I simply cannot figure out the software issue.

As I said before I have a P5Q-E and a Q9550. Both are pretty old, and I do update the BIOS and Intel Chipset for the P5Q-E, but maybe I'm missing something crucial?

This is what I do for a fresh install:

Format C:/
Install Windows 7
Update P5Q-E Bios
Update Chipset
Install Catalyst Control Center (12.1, 12.7 are the only ones that have worked so far).
Install FIFA/Skyrim
Launch FIFA/Skyrim

Usually at this point it fails and I grow frustrated.

I am saving to buy a second Sapphire HD 7770 for Xfire purpose, but I think your problems just discouraged me
