Running at 1980x1050 and have an i5 2500k inside a HAF 932 case. I'm willing to spend a little over $1,000.

The only website that seems to provide the cheapest price for the 690 is Newegg.com and their availalbity (like most others) is scarce.

Should I buy x2 MSI 680s instead? I like the architecutre of the MSI 680s. The three fans look like they keep the cards cool. I've also read that the 680 SLI setup outperforms the 690 (by very little).

Coming from two 6970s, I'm a little hesitant to pay 1000 dollars for a 2 card setup again. Crossfire scaling was terrible. I've heard SLI is better, but still...I'm hesitant.

But impatient.

Should I wait for the 690 or throw my money at some 680s?

Crossfire scaling in the new 12.7...

What is your monitor setup? If it's 1080p, both will have even worse scaling than your 6970's. Not that either setup has bad scaling in the right situations, just that 1080p doesn't need that kind of power, unless you are using 3D Vision or 120hz.

Crossfire scaling in the new 12.7 drivers is much improved. Everything from 12.4-12.6 inclusive was horribly broken.
