On my taskbar at work when I open up more than 10 programs at one time the
taskbar goes to another page and I have to use the up and dow arrows to
navigate between windows.

At home I can open up 18 programs before I have to use the up and down
arrowrs.

Where is this controlled. I would like to have it open as many as possible
before it goes to another page.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Explorer\Advanced\TaskbarGroupSize
00000003 is the value by default. You can change it to what you want.

Or turn off the grouping...

Right click the Taskbar | Properties | Taskbar tab |
UNCheck: ? Group similar taskbar buttons | Apply |
OK

Group similar taskbar buttons
[[Displays taskbar buttons for files opened by the same program in the same
area of the taskbar. In addition, if the taskbar becomes so crowded with
buttons that the width of the buttons shrinks beyond a certain width, then
the buttons for the same program are collapsed into a single button.
Clicking the button lets you access the document you want. Right-clicking
the button lets you close all the documents you want.]]

Thank you for your quick reply Wesly.

Please review my question again. I am Windows XP version 2002.

The TaskbarGroupSize was not in the path you indicated and it was not set to
3 or any number. I am not trying to control the groupsize but the number of
items that show on the task bar at one time.

I think the default is 10 but when I searched for Taskbar I found several
binary codes which I did not understand.

When you give me a suggestion could you please verify that it works first.

Again thank you for your assistance.

Change number of windows that are open before XP will start grouping them

The difference between the two computers might be related to graphics setting.

Here's a tweak to decrease the button width:

Line 97, Left-hand column.

Mr. Vogel please read my questions again. This is not a grouping question.
I just want all of the icons on the taskbar at the same time.

Has this question EVER been answered?

I recently got a new PC and have been experiencing this exact problem, and much like the original poster, I can't find an answer for it either.

Course, it's only been 4 years...

Check Keith's reply up above. If you change your screen resolution(Control Panel - Display - Settings) it will provide more space on the taskbar. If, however, you are at your maximum screen resolution, either get a new graphics card or use the registry tweak in the link that Keith gave that will decrease the width of a button on the taskbar so you have more room.
Here's a tweak to decrease the button width:
