I know I could've bought a better graphics card but this is fine for me.

I've bought the PSU, HDDs, 4gb x 2 RAMs, GPU and the 3770k. Things on order - Maximus V Extreme, phanteks and 8gb x 2 RAM.
    August 18, 2012 10:22:28 PM

1: the maximus extreme is total overkill. you dont need the super overclocking features (unless you are using LN2) and you dont need quad SLI. the ud5h is a much more suitable board.

2: cooling is interchangable. they perform the same.

3:D ont know why anyone would interchange different ram kits

    4:my 670 can beat 2 6950s in crossfire

5:D ont know why you need all this storage in different drives. not to mention SSDs are waaay faster than hard drives

6:cooler master power supplies arent good. the xfx unit i recommened is from seasonic and seasonic is pretty much the best power supply manufacturer (superflower is just as good)

7:the i5 3570k performs the same or better in games than the i7 3770k. unless you are video editing, you cant use the full power of the i7

8: case is a personal choice. just dont get a no-name

    Thanks brother.

I really want a ROG board, which one do you recommend (Won't buy a Gene).
    Which cooling do you recommend?
By different kits you mean one red and one blue? (Will it harm?)
I bought the HDDs 1 year ago for my previous computer, so using them. (Will buy SSD in the future FOR SURE)
Can't do anything about the PSU, bought it an year ago like the HDDs
    Already got the i7
    Case is amazing :)
    August 18, 2012 10:33:03 PM

no. they have different capacities. they work but are kinda awkward.

why would you want a ROG board?
    August 18, 2012 10:34:09 PM

No need for a ROG board with your usage.
    Hyper 212 EVO.
Should have asked before purchasing the i7.
    August 18, 2012 10:37:55 PM

if you update a lot, the i5 3570k is a better bet. if you are like me who doesnt update much at all, the i7 3770k is a great buy
    August 18, 2012 10:41:37 PM

I really don't update. I bought all this after 7 years! Will run this for 7 too.
    August 18, 2012 10:46:10 PM

if you are getting a ROG board, look at the maximus v formula. its a board that you can actually use most of the features. GREAT onboard sound
    August 18, 2012 10:53:50 PM

What's so bad about the Extreme? :\
    August 18, 2012 11:23:38 PM

YOU CANT FRICKEN USE HALF OF THE FEATURES AND ITS A TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY!!!!!!.

yeah my rage. if you are looking for a ROG board, the formula is a MUCH better choice.

formula: for gamers and high end rigs
extreme: for LN2 overclocking and uber gaming rigs that you shouldnt put together
    August 18, 2012 11:41:15 PM

Okay so should I get it with the ThunderFX or without?
    August 18, 2012 11:43:07 PM

how much is the price difference.
    August 18, 2012 11:45:55 PM

    A LOT.

    Without ThunderFX - $279
    With ThunderFX - $359
    August 18, 2012 11:47:16 PM

no. its not worth it. the onboard sound is already more than good.

the thunderfx version comes with a diablo 3 mousepad though :D
    August 18, 2012 11:51:55 PM

Haha not too fond on Diablo :)
    August 18, 2012 11:53:31 PM

same here. but there is a mousepad and i bet you someone would spring for it
    August 18, 2012 11:58:52 PM

    I don't use a mousepad either xD They're stupid.

    Okay, anything else you recommend?

I can still spend about $110 on anything.

Should I get the Hyper 212+ instead of the Phanteks? If yes, why? :\
What about the Corsair H100 <- Alot of people have that!
    August 18, 2012 11:59:20 PM

the phanteks cools better than the hyper 212. depends on how much of a OC you want to do.

the h100 performs slightly better than the phanteks but is much louder (i mean like a hair dryer loud when both fans are at full speed)
    August 19, 2012 12:05:25 AM

    WOW. Lol.

What do I need to OC to about 4.7-4.8 stable?

( Edited the main post, added the Maximus V Formula :)  )

    Re-vote if you want :D
    August 19, 2012 12:11:03 AM

you shouldnt be overclocking ivy bridge pass 4.6ghz anyways. it gets too hot and doesnt increase performance at all. you can reach 4.2ghz without raising voltage and 4.5ghz with a slight voltage bump should be the highest you do

Hmm.. You got an Ivy Bridge too right? How much do you run it on? (And which fan/heatsync should I get?!)
    August 19, 2012 12:20:53 AM

i didnt really overclock it yet. its sitting at 4ghz with a noctua nh-d14 with no thermal paste.
    August 19, 2012 12:25:41 AM

So finally - Phanteks or 212+?
    August 19, 2012 12:31:15 AM

Cool. Is getting a 120GB SSD worth it?
    August 19, 2012 12:39:31 AM

Or you could get this cooler which is better than is better than both of those.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
Not to mention it's cheaper too.

Eh? I asked someone if the Phanteks is better in the Cooling section of the forum, they said it is much better. :\

(Same price btw, promo on Phanteks)
    August 19, 2012 1:04:17 AM

Man.. I wish the Noctua was better looking. I love Xigmatek's Design! :o
    August 19, 2012 1:06:26 AM

If you like a design better go for it (like the Xigmatek). But with your case you have a mesh side (or whatever you call the metal with holes in it) and not a window so you won't see it once it's inside, for the most part at least. Almost every cooler will be better than the stock one so none are bad just Noctua is best.

I'm gonna remove the mesh and add a window probably.

How is the Xigmatek performance wise?
Can you mention any good looking fan with nice performance?
    August 19, 2012 1:20:32 AM

Hmm I saw. How's the Cooler Master V10? (It isn't listen there). And what do you think about the Hyper 212 EVO?

Will the H212 EVO be able to handle 4.5Ghz?
    August 19, 2012 1:27:13 AM

EVO is just a slight upgrade and I wouldn't expect much if any of a performance increase. The V10 is expensive and big with good thermals but I wouldn't get it over the Noctua since it has a good chance of blocking some of your ports whether memory or something else but it does review good (from what I've read). These forms don't like them as much as the Noctua though.

    Winner Noctua
    August 19, 2012 1:33:36 AM

Did you decide on a different GPU because the 6850 would be a good buy over the 6950.

    Why no thermal paste?
    August 19, 2012 3:02:59 AM

WHAT?!? NO THERMAL PASTE. At all? I missed that. I hope this is a misunderstanding but if it's what it looks like I'll disregard all your information as that's one of the stupidest things I've ever heard of a person doing.
    August 19, 2012 7:08:59 AM

So if I get the Phanteks, I'll have to use thermal paste too.. right? if yes, how do I use it? how do I apply it or anything?
    August 19, 2012 7:52:06 AM

anything in which I don't have to apply thermal paste? :-/

Yes.... DO NOT APPLY THERMAL PASTE TO ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE CPU

Haha no lol I was asking if there is any fan/heat sync which doesn't require applying the thermal paste.

Go easier on the MB, and use SSDs and Caviar Blues instead. Also swap out the PSU for a more reliable one. So it'll end up like this: 2x 128 GB SSD + 2x 1TB Caviar Blues. Are you doing a lot of video editing? If so, an NVIDIA card can help you much better with it's CUDA cores. I would get something like a GTX 660 Ti since it's out now. High capacity RAM is necessary for video editing.

    Just my two cents.
    August 19, 2012 11:25:24 AM

My dad insisted upon buying the Extreme. He ordered it already!!

    meh, its okay :)
    I love it :)
