I REALLY don't want to start a flame war, but I must ask whether a GTX 670 is better than a 7970 or 6990. Thanks!

Oops! Price isn't really relevant, nor is the brand. But my monitor is 1600X900.

If price is no object then the 6990 is the way to go, especially at that resolution.

Which is better .308 or 8mm Mauser?

Price and Brand are completely relevant. Either card will do far more than your monitor can.

Price, brand, usage all play an important part in providing a meaningful recommendation.

honestly for that resolution you don't need 670. been using GTX460 since january last year (1600x900 res) and until now i still see little to no reason to upgrade my GPU when majority of the game that i play easily exceed 60FPS. btw it's your money so pick the one that you think will serve your need well

that is if CF working properly. personally i tend to avoid CF/SLI setup unless i need more performance than the fastest single gpu can offer.

At that resolution, you'll be seeing high frame rates. Any high-end card is practically overkill.

To answer your question, the GTX 670 has roughly the same performance of the 7970. The 6990 performs higher than GTX 670 and 7970.
