Having severe comcast lag off and on

Lately I've noticed my internet goes from about 20mbs down, to around .2 kbs down for hours at a time randomly throughout the day. It gets so bad where I can't even load a google search, or facebook. Loading SpeedTest.net ahead of the time was the only way for me to see how slow it was getting!

Anyways, here are some details about my connection; just ask if you need more.

I'm using a Linksys WRT54GS2 router with a DPC2203 "Comcast-given" modem.

The modems status:
Frequency: 441.000 MHz
Power: -5 dBmV
Signal to Noise Ratio: 29 dB
Modulation: QAM-256


Upstream
Frequency: 25.200 MHz
Power: 44 dBmV
Upstream Data Rate: 2560 Ksymbol/second
Modulation: QAM-64

- All of this is okay according to Comcast.

Also, while typing this message my connection completely terminated and I don't even have a terribly slow connection to post with!

have you tested the connection by connecting directly to the modem, this way you can see if it is the router.
