Hello, I found that the template for asking for new build advice didn't really suit what I needed as I already have a list of all the parts that I think will work, and I just need advice for if they actually do! :D

Suggested Parts to buy:

CPU: Intel i7 2600K @ 3.4 GHz

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU Cooler

RAM: Corsair Vengeance CMZ16GX3M2A1600C10 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3

SATA Hard Drive for files: Western Digital WD Black 2TB WD2002FAEX

SSD Hard Drive to load OS: Corsair Force Series 3 120GB SSD

Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 580 SuperClocked Video Card - 1536MB

Sound Card: ASUS Xonar D1

Optical Drive: Lite-On IHAS324 24x DVDRW

Motherboard: ASRock X79 Extreme4-M Motherboard

Power Supply Unit: Antec EarthWatts 750W Green

Overclocking: Yes, in the future

SLI or Crossfire: No

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080

Additional Comments: I'm a first time builder and I just want advice on whether this would all work well or not? Would one of these components slow everything else down? Is my PSU powerful enough?
Also any suggestions or criticism is welcome :)

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Because I want to build a good gaming machine so I can play games on something that isn't my crappy old overheating dell laptop

You could do much better specially for the purpose of the build.

Check out my $1100 build here:

The 7950 is better than the GTX 580 for less and consumes less heat as well as overclocks better and runs quieter.

Critiques of your build:
580 is old and expensive
16GB is overkill for just gaming and even for video editing and creation 8GB is more than enough.
There is no need for a sound card in the current day when MB sound is good enough to support 5.1+ sound. Plus you wouldn't even notice the difference.
i7 2600K is unnecessary for gaming, the i5 3570K is cheaper and will perform even better with the slight IB boost in performance about ~5-7% over the i5 2500K.

My budget is around $1400 - $1500, and I'll be playing very performance demanding games (flight simulator for example)
Thanks for the reply! :wahoo:

Thanks so much for the suggestions! :D You're awesome.
Oh and also no it's not demanding until you get serious with it and overload it with addons! :p

Once again thanks! :)

There should be a little banner that says "Select as best answer" in lower right corner of my answer, if you don't see is because this a discussion thread, lol

Ahhhh that would explain it.... :bounce:

Flight sims are somewhat demanding but the current build should handle it. I wouldn't opt for SLI 660 Ti as it's not yet necessary to SLI in the beginning, CF/SLI sometimes have issues anyways with certain games so I would suggest going with a single card for now. Check out my $1100 build here (the one I listed above):
http://www.squidoo.com/electronicandmore

Here's the 660 Ti review:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-660-ti-benchmark-review,3279-17.html
On average the 7950 for about the same price beats out the 660 Ti.

99 times out of 100 people who say "i will Sli/CF later" never do it.

I agree, one should always consider a single card solution. Its usually going to be the better option. Although there are some circumstances where its more economical to SLi/Crossfire from day one (or shortly after the build).

Even so, I always suggest the person start out with one video card first and make sure their "eyes aren't bigger than their stomach" before dropping hundreds of bucks on a 2nd card. You might find you're perfectly content with a single card.

I see somebody has taken some lectures from Linus. :kaola:

BTW, is it just me or does he seem really, really gay? Ironically, he is not. He got married or so he claims.
