Hey all,

I'm currently in the process of creating a semi-basic build for my father, to replace his extremely old Compaq desktop and finally get him a bit modernized through a basic overhaul of everything he's got. I'm trying to keep him relatively cheap, keep the initial build somewhat relevant for several years(at least), and definitely leave some leeway to maybe help him out again in the future through parts upgrades so it's all much cheaper the next time around. This is only my second custom build, so I may have went a bit overboard on some of the picks. And hopefully everything checks out as compatible... I think I did an alright job there, but I have come to these forums for some others' opinions, just to make sure.

Anyway, my father is very big on music(has TONS of CDs, and would like to get them all saved as files on his computer to put on an iPod or something, but can't hold them all in 1 spot because there isn't enough space on his current hard drive, which is 80GB, and his external hard drive, which is 500GB). He also wants to be able to play his music through an external sound system, but I left out a sound card from this build because most all motherboards nowadays can support a basic 2.1 external computer speaker setup with their onboard audio. He also likes to do very basic web browsing(pay bills, watch youtube videos, and possibly watch some movies). Here's what I've managed to come up with for him:

Monitor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16824009255

Grand total: $865

I guess my only question is about the PSU. I don't feel very confident in judging how much power a system setup requires as a minimum, and then learning to guess how much wattage over that would be a good amount for later upgrades. I tried on this, and hopefully I'm right in choosing a 500W. I'm probably off, though. I was debating between a 400 or 500?

Sorry for the rambling. I get a little nervous when shelling out this kind of money on something I'm not 100% on, and I'd feel horrible if anything didn't work when it got here once my dad went to pay for it, going by my word. Just stopping by here for some friendly advice. Thanks for any and all comments/pieces of wisdom!
