I just can't afford a 5D and I bought my 20D about a month ago so there's
really no need for me to pray.

Prayer is a form of meditative affirmation. If you do pray, but include in
your prayers the specifics about how you will attain your 20D you will in
fact attain it.

If you already know the specifics of how you'll attain it, then why would
you need to pray that you'll get it???

Give me your address and I'll send you a copy of "Think and Grow Rich".
Finding the answer to your question in the book will be left as an excercise
for the student.

Oh, and don't forget to place all of your earthly belongings in the
box at the door on your way out.

I think you may be serious, and if you are...then I think you misuse the
term, prayer.

I'm not saying don't pray...
....I'm just saying that God doesn't tend to spend his "Zaps" on stuff we can
do with our own sweat.

I am serious, and based on my recent readings about christian and buddhist
meditation I'm pretty sure I am not misunderstanding the correct use of the
word prayer - at least in a sophisticated spiritual context. There is the
common idea that praying is just wishing the gods would hand over something
to you, and there is the more sophisticated prayer of monks (not just
christian) that is much more like what we would call affirmation or goal
setting. There's a lot available on the differnt traditions of prayer on
the internet. However, it is WAY off topic here except when referring to
the general wish for some new piece of equipment that we can't currenlty
afford.
Right now I'm praying for a new printer and some new wide angle glass for
the 20D, but only in the wishy way that won't do me any good. <g>

That's true. There probably isn't even a god to listen, but that's not
what's important. The act of verbalizing your desires and needs is what's
important.

If you aren't involving a deity, then it's something other than prayer.
Your version is just a fancy way to say "wishful thinking."

I think that's a pretty good description of prayer.
We pray (or wish) something will happen and most of the time it
doesn't.
But when it does, we look to the Heavens and cry, "Our prayers were
answered!"
For about 3 years I prayed every night to win the lottery. I never won
squat.
Then one night I prayed, "Lord, why haven't you answered my prayers?"
Just then I heard a voice deep in my head which answered,
"It might help if you actually bought a lottery ticket, dumbass!"
