Hey all,

Thinking of upgrading from my 6850 and am wondering what you all think is the best upgrade for both performance and bang-for-the-buck. I'm gaming on a 22" 1680x1050 monitor w/60hz refresh. I'd like to get something strong now and then xfire/sli later to keep it going - if applicable.

Thanks!

Either 7870 or wait for gtx660 and then decide. 7850 is not big enough of an improvement over 6850 to justify the purchase (I have 6850 as well, but am playing on 1920x1200 monitor).

I'll have to prove my point with a benchmark

It's over a 20% improvement, and that is quite a lot. Also, it's one of the best price and performance card in the mid-range segment.

If he wanted to get a 7870, the price is nearly $100 more.

Dont really think the 7850 is worth it justify the cost.. yes it will perform significantly better than a 6850.. but is it really worth it.. don't think so in your circumstances .

Would much rather that you look at the GTX 660 670 or the HD 7870 depending on your budget. If the want the strongeest card it is the 670...

Fyi i moved from a 6850 to a 7870.. but that was before the 670 came out..

Also consider if you really want the upgrade considering you only using a 1650 resolution. worse comes to worse u could pop in another 6850 ... (Though i would not be all in for that as people have suffered stutter issues with that..)

Poping in a second 6850 is worth considering. However, a 670 is not. At his resolution, a 7850 can already max 60fps. Why pay more for frames you cant see?

well bang for the buck depends on where you are shopping. I would say anything from a 560Ti upwards on the review chart posted would be worth it if you are struggling with things at the moment.

Just make sure you have enough power to run what you choose and that your CPU is capable of allowing teh potential of teh new card to be seen at its fullest.

Mactronix :)
