Wanting to upgrade my MSI 5770 Hawk.

I have a friend wanting to sell me a PNY GTX580 XLR8 Edition for $250
Is there anything else out there for the same price-ish that I should look into?

A GTX580 at that price is pretty much an awesome deal. I'd get it if I were you.

You can upgrade a to GTX 480 for $200 on newegg.

You should by the GTX 580 off your friend because at that price its more than awesome. Just don't buy an AMD graphics card because they have poor drivers and support so i regret buying this Radeon HD 6850

NO! don't buy that. I made a mistake of buying the 6850 and now my PC is ****** up! The bad driver compatibility and support is the main reason you shouldn't go with AMD. I regret buying the 6850 and now i'm stuck with it. I have the same CPU as you and i have lags on most games and can't max out some while GTA 4 is unplayable because of the poor driver support. I highly recommend you go with the 580 from your friend. Right now i want to return the 6850 and get a GTX 560. Trust me man avoid the 6850 like the devil its a big mess

Lazar is nuts. AMDs drivers are fine, GTA4 is just HORRIBLY coded, the 6850 is not a high end card, and its not going to Max stuff at 1080p.

That being said $250 is a good deal. a 7850 highly overclocked will come close to it for a little less, if you don't wanna burn power/heat but that's about it. an overclocked 7770 would probably be better than a 6850 if you don't want to spend the 250

GTX 580 for 250 bucks is pretty good deal, get it. Still the 3rd most powerful card in the Nvidia camp behind GTX 680 and 670 (excluding the dual GPU card GTX 590 and GTX 690 which cost an arm and a leg). You can overclock the GTX 580 for even more performance if needed. No amount of overclock can bring a 7850 to the level of a highly clocked GTX 580.

AMD drivers are not fine sry. They have horrible support and the AMD vision control panel is very confusing and Nvidia's drivers are approximately 91% better. Pretty simple in the NV control panel and drivers have awesome support. And Nvidia doesn't have tons of useless cr*p like AMD has ATI catalyst and that kind. And when i have to download a new driver it asks a lot of stuff before i get to a site where i have a option to download 4 drivers which includes catalyst, new and old AMD drivers and i don't know what to download. I definitely should have bought the GTX 560, this 6850 is just garbage. It needs a POWERFUL quad core CPU in order to not have a bottleneck while the GTX 560 is not so CPU power intensive. I can only play BF3 on ultra and in 1080p with AA X4. But since i want to play gta 4 AMD is very weak in that game. Its not bad coded its AMD's useless drivers, my friend has an NV GTX 560 and it runs fine on 60 fps and he only has a unlocked phenom II 720.

err ... hate to butt in here.. but AMD driver aren't all that bad.. yes they are not in the same league as Nvidia but I am on my third amd card and have no issues. I love their price performance ratio...

OP if u have abt 200 $ to spend put it on a HD 7850... also if you can deal with the heating issues (and get a good aftermarket cooler and heatsink) u can also consider a gtx 480
