Hello,
I am looking to build a gaming rig, but I somehow find myself tied up to technical stuff I don't even get (Specially on the Processor and Graphics part) I want to play all kinds of FPS (mostly Valve's) and some Basic RPG's. My total budget (shipping included) is 600 bucks. Thanks beforehand.

Solution
What I have so far is:

Hanspree 23" backlit w/ speakers LCD monitor 140$
Samsung Spinpoint 1tb HDD 70$
MSI 7770 GHZ 125+7$ shipping
G.skill 2x4 gb value series ram 40$
Asrock h77m mobo 70$ -10$ promo code EMCYTZT2078
Win7 Home Premium 64bit 100-20$ promo code EMCYTZT2082
Hive 650w +Challenger case 105$
i3-2120 + 22x samsung drive(couldnt fit i5 with monitor on budget) 131$

total with the promos as of the moment is 757.67

If I were to cut the cost even more, it would be barebonning the psu and cse limiting your options. buying one stick of 4gb ram is also an option to cut price as well. lowering the 7770 to something weaker is an option(not the best as the gpu is the heart of the...

Would the i3 be enough to work its way with all the settings on HIGH?

A quad core i5 is much better than an i3 for gaming.

It won't make any difference to your ability to turn up the graphics to high. That is a question of your GPU power, not CPU.

Quad cores are increasingly necessary for multiplayer and RPG games, although an i3 is probably ok for most FPS.

I would say an i5 2500 or 3570 + 660Ti

yeah, try to fit that budget right in

May I ask for Budget OP? and location of purchase(as some states get taxed on newegg)

(as this is probably one of the more cheap 1920x1080 resolution monitors with speakers built in.)

an example of barebone cutting would be:

corsair builder 430w 45$-5$ promo
Rosewill FBM-01 dual fan micro atx case 35$
Pareema 1x4gb ram 20$

Well I'll be damned... I thank you so much. Thanks for the tips as well.

true to some extent i guess, the pentium g860 is 90$ so its less than the i3-2120's 125$

so its 125-90 = 35$ for .3 ghz speed as well as 2 hyper threads, 24$ if you take account that its in combo with a drive for -11$ off(because the g860 doesnt have a similar combo) so the question is is 24$ worth the extra 2 threads and .3 ghz per core essentially.

I just went to see what happens on threads in global offensive(valve game) hers my results

so possibly valve games can use hyperthreads to some extent(the blue bars on the side represent the hyperthreads
