Is it okay to use your discrete video card for basic tasks or is it possible to switch between integrated and discrete? Just wondering. Thank you.

Yes it is fine to use your discrete video card for all tasks, you can switch between integrated and discrete in the BIOS, though I'm not sure why you would want to do this.

I'm just alittle paranoid about my GPU life span as I want it to be stressed as little as possible until I start to play some graphics intensive games.

Ok well like I said you could run off the integrated graphics if you wanted, Just generally using your computer (Web-browsing, watching films ETC...) won't stress out your card much at all, These cards are designed for years of punishment so I wouldn't worry about stressing the card, it can handle it
