Hi all,

I am in the process of upgrading my gaming PC. People have told me to wait to get the new Haswell products when they come out. You know that when the new stuff comes out it is always really exspensive and still has some glitches. So not sure I could afford the new stuff anyways! I have waited about two-three years to upgrade. So I think I want to upgrade now! What are your thoughts on the waiting for Haswell or the new products coming in a few months?

I want to make it run faster and for the graphics to look fantastic!. I know I know! Just overclock what you have! No overclocking, dont want to deal with that! A friend told me to buy a FX8350 and Sabertooth 990fx r2.0 Mobo! but I want it to be a screaming gaming PC and it seems like Intel is faster for gaming! Can you help with some suggestions?

I am looking to spend no more than $800

This is what I am running.

Windows 7 --64
i7 920 @ 2.67
Asus P6T (not the Deluxe)
Gefore GTX 570 1028mb
Corsair XMS3 6gd DDR3
Samsung 1tb sata & 300gb HD
Corsair 850TX power supply

Thanks for all your help

In my opinion the 670 gtx is the one to get, best value vs 680 gtx, as for 660 ti vs 670 gtx, both are good ones, but if you can pay for a 670 gtx it will be better, more bandwidth(256 bit bus), rops.
The best 670 gtx are the evga ftw("ftw" only or "ftw signature 2") and asus 670 gtx dcii, msi 670 gtx power edition.
As for the overclock, you can overclock the i7 920 easily for 3 ghz without any risk, if you have a decent cooler.

Hey,

Thanks for the reply.

I read that Intel is faster for gaming then AMD and that AMD is better for rendering! Is that correct?

The i7 processors are good for rendering, so an i7 is better in both(i7-3770k).
You could change for an i7-3770k(it's better, from a newer architecture), but for gaming, you have a good cpu, what's essential is the gpu swap for a better one like a 670 gtx or 680 gtx.

Thanks..You are the first person that has suggested for me to keep my CPU and buy a new GPU! Everyone has said to get a new CPU and MOBO either the AMD8350 or i5 3570 or the i78320! Now I am really unsure what to get!

Yes, for gaming the i5-3570k or i7-3770k(rendering+gaming) will be better, but like i said you have a good cpu, it will not bottleneck the cards in question, if you overclock the cpu for ~ 3.0 ghz or more(it can reach 4.0 GHZ with a good air cooler), it will be good for you, it's not worth the whole upgrade cost in my opinion(cpu+mobo).

So the only thing I should upgrade is my GPU to a 670 or 680? Can you recommend one? What do you think about the 660's. If you like the 660's can you also recommend one? I shop at Fry's Electronics!

Also, my concern is with you saying overclock the CPU! I have NO knowledge of overclocking. I know. I know. just google it! Its more than that you need to be very careful. I cant afford to screw anything up! That's why I wanted to buy a faster CPU so I wouldnt have to mess with overclocking!

Thanks for all your help.

Ok I will look into the 670's.

As far as overclocking. Can you recommend any sites/links for overclocking for my PC. Also, I just bought a Corsair H50 Hydro cooler! Is that a good one?

Again, thanks for all your help!
