currently i am focusing on FX 6100 or should i focus more on Phenom II X6...despite it's old chip and quality but i see 40% in performance than FX 6100..btw i am open to Recommendations BUT ANYTHING EXCEPT FX 8100 Or Any Intel i3 or i5 and i7

6100 is not too strong for gaming, you have to look at phenom ll 980.

I have a Phenom 980 @ 4.2Ghz and newegg no longer has 980's they have 975's though for $130.

Anyway if your buying a new mobo get an i3, if your just replacing the cpu get a Phenom x4 975 on newegg!!

BTW: you can always overclock the Phenoms, but even when overclocked to 4.2 ghz the i3 still gives a little bit better gaming performance at stock speeds!
(Due to its architecture)

(This mostly apply's to games like Bf3 which need a lot of cpu horsepower)

yes, if you are planning for games then get the 980 otherwise editing, rendering etc go with x6.

The FX6100 is a great chip IF you overclock it. Its a 95w processor so with a descent after market cooler the chip overclocks easily. I've been running one since February. I have it clocked at 4.0ghz using a Xigmatek cooler. My idle temps are in the mid 30's, maxes out right at 50 (only during stress testing, gaming hardly hits 45). I run mine with a 7950 video card, a 7850 will do great (as long as you're gaming on one screen). You can easily overclock past 4.0ghz but I didnt see the point, everything I need the chip to do it runs great at. Blu ray ripping went from 3.5 hours on my Phenom II to 2 hours. Every game I've tried has worked great (Battlefield 3, Diablo 3, Skyrim etc...)

My dad has a core i3 2100. and imo its a bit overated everyone said its gonna be great bang for your buck. wasnt a big upgrade from the core 2 quad he had. so yea.
core i3 2100 vs 980. get the 980 even if the i3 does win at stock speeds the 980 can be overclocekd the i3 cant and the 980 is a QUAD CORE and the i3 is a dual core.just my 2cents your choice op
