Connect My TV to Computer with HDMI

Hey, 2 months ago I got my HDMI cable, I tried to connect it to the TV but I had no signal in the HDMI channel, I could connect it through the VGA cable in the PC channel but I get no sound of course.
2 weeks ago I tried to give it another shot and it worked, I just connected the HDMI cable to the TV and turned the computer on. It worked for 3 days until I put the computer to sleep mode. Now I can't connect it with the HDMI cable anymore (I can still use VGA).
The cable is working on my monitor.
My computer:
Windows 7 Ultimate N 64-Bit
Asus P8Z68-V LE
Intel Core i7-2600K
8GB RAM
Asus GTX 580
The TV: Panasonic TH-L32C20M
My question: Are there steps to do it? Or am I missing something?

You should just be able to plug it in.
What you could try, is go into the control panel>adjust screen resolution and see if it's detecting it there?

Been there done that, it didn't act like a regular monitor, and how can I adjust anything and I can't see it?
