CDROM - CD not in (but it is)

I have a plexor CDR and an asus 50X CDROM. Windows 98

The problem is that I can listen and write CD music just fine, but the auto exe does not work for games. Also, I put in a game like Mech Warrior IV or AOE and the copy right software says the CD isn't in the drive, but it is.

FYI I use my asus to play games, but I tried plextor and it still didn't work.

Can anyone help me?

If I understand correctly your problem is that you can't burn games? If so try Clone CD.

no (I should of been more clear)... I cannot play the games from the CDs I bought from the store. Even though the CDs are in the CD drive.. The computer doesn't reconize them and ask for the proper CDs.

I do not have a clue on what is causing this.

what type of video card do you have? does it have tv out?

yes, it has TV out... leadtek GF2 ultra 64megs.

my videocard is fine though. Anarchy Online plays great, but it doesn't require a CD to play it. Thats what the problem is. Somehow my CDROMs are not doing their thing.

i'm not sure. just dvd's you can't copy if you have tv out on your video card. for games i'm sure it's copying some files over to the hd. but i'm just a little fruitcake :/

I believe the Asus 50X. Which is the slave and the plexor is the master device.

I only use plex to write CDs.

maybe you should switch them. try that.

Need more info / Is it the cdr that won't play the games if so the cdr's read eye is defective it will still write to a cd but it will not read a cd.Send it back to who ever made it.

found out what was wrong.

Registery has a few flaws, found out how to fix it on the MS support site.
