Hello, not sure where to put this, so I'll just leave it here.

I have about $300 (maybe some more if its just a small extra) to spend on some upgrades, just not sure how to make the most of it. I am going to a store called PCDIY (pcdiy.com.au) on Saturday with my friend, might as well buy something while at it. Oh and I'm going to Auburn PCDIY.

These are my parts/specs:

Video Card: Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTS 512
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4CPUs), ~2.4GHz

Memory: 4GB
Monitor: SyncMaster 226BW(Digital)
PSU: Antec Earthwatts EA-500D
Case: Antec Sonata III 500

Oh and I've already asked if they have any Radeon HD 6870, 6770,6750 and GTX 560 (non-ti).

Thanks guys.

PS. 3 Year old computer, still running fine.

Solution
I still think you should get the cheapest gtx 560 ti for about $20 extra, you will notice amazing improvement from your 8800gts.

I would upgrade the video card but the cpu might bottle neck it. I would get the video card and after save up for a better cpu and motherboard. I rarely see any socket 775 cpu's.

What should I upgrade the video card to? and should I just invest more to buy a extra cpu?

Also, how much approx. would it be to upgrade the above you all listed in total? I might not be able to go there again for a while.

there is another store near Lidcombe you might wanna check out. www.mwave.com.au

Their website is more user friendly and you can actually check the availability of products online as well as pick it up from their store.

For that budget, IMO the best upgrade you can get is http://www.mwave.com.au/sku-42060863-Gigabyte_AMD_Radeon_HD_7850_Overclock_Video_Card_GDDR5_2048MB_256_Bit_975_4800MH

but your cpu might be a bottleneck, so use http://www.mwave.com.au/sku-18020624-Cooler_Master_Hyper_212_EVO_120mm_Cooling_Fan_Intel_Socket_LGA2011_1366_1156_115 to overclock it up to 3.4ghz. That should minimise the bottleneck quite a bit..

If you don't want to go through the hassle of overclocking, then get either the hd7770 http://www.mwave.com.au/sku-42060858-Gigabyte_Radeon_HD_7770_Overclocked_Video_Card_GDDR5_1024MB_128_bit_1100MHz_5000

or the gtx560 ti http://www.mwave.com.au/sku-42050905-Gigabyte_GeForce_GTX_560_Ti_Video_Card_DDR5_1GB_256_Bit_VRAM_Core_Clock_900_Mhz_

How about the GTX 560 non-ti? According to my research, the 6870 is better for a 10% price increase.

What I'm trying to do is that, I buy one or two things with $200, since my friend owes me. Then get something upgrade with my 100 bucks + the left overs. So I'm not trying to overhaul the video card, otherwise the CPU and motherboard might bottleneck it.

And also, I might consider getting the 7770, but is the 6870/6850 more worth the money? Want to make sure before I buy something.

EDIT: I've decided I'm going to PCDIY, while he's shopping at MSY, since MSY has nearly nothing I want.

Alright.

Found the price list, its an extra $65 from the regular 560 ($169) to the 560 Ti ($234), worth it?

Also, if I buy those, what other parts can I upgrade with the leftovers?
