Amd vs intel for gaming

Hello,
My fiance and I are building a gaming pc one piece at a time due to budget restrictions, but we want to build a really nice machine. Also neither of us really have any experience with this so we could use some good advice.
So far we have a Radeon HD 7970 Graphics card, and planning on using my little 24" hdtv for a monitor.
We're looking at CPUs next but we're not sure whether to go amd or intel.
Any advice would be really helpful, like I said we don't really know what we're doing quite yet.
Also, any thoughts on motherboards or ram??
Thanks!

More about intel gaming
  1. What is your price range for the CPU/Motherboard?
  2. it depends on your budget. if you can afford an intel i5 without compromising the rest of your system, then go intel. the i5-3570k is probably the best gaming cpu for the money

if youre on a tighter budget AMD offers some nice cheaper cpus
  3. I'd go Intel. There is just something about AMD that I don't like. I'd go with a i5-3570k for gaming or a i7 3770k if you're doing a lot of 3D work / rendering.
  4. Budget is not a huge issue due to the fact that we're building paycheck to paycheck so would you suggest an i5 or i7? I've read that an i7 is over kill for gaming but on the other hand I want to have a strong system that can handle hi def gaming without lagging. One of the games I'm looking to play is skyrim and i want alot of the texture mods and such and i dont know how much strain that kind of thing would put on the processor.
  5. there is no significant benefit of getting an i7 for gaming. for just gaming i5 is king.

The i5-3570k is the absolute best value gaming CPU on the market. The 3770K is better, but there isn't a game out there that needs that much power, nor will there be for a long time.
  7. Intel is the best when comes to gaming, an i3-3120 can kill an entire family of AMD especially the $200 AMD CPU... i3-3120 is very good at gaming but when it comes to i5 3570k, it just smoke away the i3...

unless the game benefit from quad cores lol...
  10. I think we're going to go with the i5 3570k for the cpu. Thank you for the advice! If I have questions about the other parts (motherboards, coolers, ram) should I start a new thread? I'm very new to this forum.

start new thread because you'd get 50% more use to help you there than they help you in here
