Hey! New member here :D

I'm having trouble on what video card to get. Right now my rig consists of:

i7 3770(standard or k) still deciding if I will OC
msi GD65 mobo
8 or 16gb of ram (most likely corsair vengeance LP 1600)
120gb sandisk SSD
1tb WD Black
750w PS
etc etc

2 Displays: asus 21' (1680x1050) + dell u2412m 24' (1920x1200)

Usage: About 60% will be used in Photoshop/Sony Vegas/Premiere Pro/After Effects, 40% Gaming

I've been reading a lot about CUDA for PP/AE and WAS considering the GTX 670 or 680, but it doesn't seem to be supported yet, and from the looks of it their computing performance isn't that good compared to the HD7970 for example. Then I started considering the 7970, but since it only has OpenCL (and isn't completely implemented into AE) and no CUDA I feel like I may be missing out.

Maybe the GTX 580? Although I want to play BF3 on max on my u2412m, so I'm in a dilemma on what I should get :(.

Price point is <= the price of a 7970. Hopefully ya'll can give me some insight.

Thanks!

all GPU compute programs now optimized for open cl
CUDA is just for physx and all 2012 games that use nvidia physx allow you to enable it if you have i5 or better
so 7970 still the best for editing/gaming/photoshop

6xx series cards have less cuda cores then 5xx. something to remember.

when it comes to the cpu either get the 3770k or 2600k. worst case you are 30ish dollars poorer. best case you have a cpu that has 20% more power minimum then it had before.

to decide between the 2600 or 3770 comes down to cooling. if you get the 3770k youll need pretty good cooling to get a good overclock but on the 2600k you only need mediocre cooling to get a 4.5 overclock.

Yeah I went ahead and got the 3770k and will probably get the CM 212 to do some overclockin.

Also just splurged on the 7970. Hopefully I made the right choice! :bounce:

the 212 will limit you to a lower overclock...
