Question about Catalyst Aplication Profiles

I'm curious how CAP's work.Do you download them each time? Or do you erase the old ones? Because I've noticed that the CAP's file size are always 0.5mb.Which makes me wonder how they keep the old profiles with the new ones.

I honestly don't know, I always recommend to download and install when people are having issues with their crossfire, but I don't actually know how or why they work? lol apparently no one else does either.
