Out of nowhere the icons on the taskbar have become large. The taskbar
itself looks taller. Customizing via Taskbar and Start Menu Properties has
no effect on the size of the icons. "Small icons" is checked. Checking
"Large icons" makes no difference.

Using a toolbar such as Quick Launch? If yes, right click on a blank space
within the toolbar. Select View> Small Icons.
If no luck, try Display properties> Appearance> Advanced>
Item: Icon: Default size is 32.
Item: Caption Buttons: default size is 20
If no luck adjusting settings by reapplying a standard scheme or theme to
restore default size settings.
