Not detecting graphics card

I'm pretty sure I've installed the graphics card (powercolor radeon hd 7850) correctly but the computer isn't using it. In the BIOS I (think) I have it set up so that it will use a graphics card if it can detect one but it is only using the on-board graphics for some reason. Any help would be appreciated, I wouldn't be surprised if I've just mucked something up in the BIOS.

Did you plug in the the power cables into the graphics card?

or maybe you didn't put it into the PCIE slot all the way, while installing my gpu this happened to me, you have to hear it make a click sound!

Just double checked, everything's definitely in properly.
