Hey all

I was recently installing a new hard drive i had bought, but in the process of doing so I forgot to pull out the mains cable. Unfortunately for me, I wear a ring which is pure metal, the aforementioned ring came into contact with a couple of solder points on the graphics card (9800GT) which caused a small spark. The graphics card no longer boots up. Is there a way back for this card or has my ungodly stupidity ruined it?

All help is appreciated.

Unlikely unless you are willing to use a rare evga untouchables power board on it but a 9800gt isn't worth it for general use. You are better off buying another card and moving on. Keep the dead card though as it's parts might bring new life to other parts when scrapped. Like the cooler, the fan, the thermal pads if there is any, and the inductors. The bracket can be reused as well, the caps that are 6.3 and 16v rated can be reused to fix other cards as well mainboards.
