Radeon HD 3450 vs Radeon X1800 GTO

I am planning to play Guild Wars 2 when it releases, and have already played in the recent betas. I currently have a Radeon HD 3450, and noticed the GW2 FAQ mentions minimum requirements are for an ATI X1800.
Using this chart http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/AMD-ATI-Chips-Comparison-Table/131, I found my video card and the Radeon X1800 GTO. This is what the chart shows for the 2 cards:

Chip: Radeon HD 3450 vs Radeon X1800 GTO
Core Clock: 600 MHz vs 500 MHz
Memory Clock: 1 GHz vs 1 GHz
Memory Interface: 64-bit vs 256-bit
Memory Transfer Rate: 8 GB/s vs 32 GB/s
Pixels per clock: 40 vs 12
DirectX: 10.1 vs 9.0c

I noticed that my card has better Core Clock/Pixels per clock/DirectX, while the other card has better Memory Interface/Memory Trancfer Rate.
What I was wondering is whether one card is better than the other for this game, or are they similar enough that it won’t really matter?

  1. If you are wanting a new card then get something that is modern like a 6670. The x1800 gto has no driver support and worse it isn't a great card. Single slot, uses a lot of power, and is weak compared to many cards that offer many cards that are available today.
  2. Neither of those cards would be good enough to run Guild Wars 2 that well.

What does the rest of your system look like? Do you have an upgrade budget?
  3. the x1800 would be about twice as fast however they are both way to slow to really play the game well. I would recomend something newer. A HD6450 is not a gaming card by any means starts at like $35 and would be about 4 times faster than the 3450. You could find HD 4850s on ebay for around 40-60 as well. The 4850 would be about 8 times faster than the 3450.

Whats the rest of you system. we need the full specs to make a good recomendation.

I'm pretty sure that the 4850 is substantially more than twice as fast as the 6450.
  5. On a core 2duo my 4850 gets a 3dmark 06 score of around 11,000 the 6450 is pretty amazing for the price it gets around 6,000 on an older core2duo. I used 3dmark 06 because the old core 2 with the 4850 is still running xp. The 6450 does not get any gaming time so i dont know first hand how well it would do in games.
  6. 3D Mark is a synthetic. It doesn't actually tell you how fast a card is for gaming and even then, different games can behave differently with different GPU architectures and such so it can't possibly be very accurate. There's also a chance of that CPU bottle-necking the 4850 somewhat.

Now this isn't a real-world benchmark, but it clearly shows that the 4850 should have incredibly higher performance than the 6450. The 4850 is close to the 5750, 6750, and the 7750 in performance and these are all very far ahead of the mere 6450.

Five times more memory bandwidth, five times higher texel rate, and a three times higher pixel rate. It is not merely twice as fast as the 6450 in real-world gaming either. The 5670/6670 cards are more like twice as fast as the 6450 than the 4850 is. Heck, they might be more than twice as fast as the 6450.
