Gigabit network card

The card on my MB is listed as a GIGBIT NIC, but the STATUS reports as only 10Mbps, why is this please ??

To get a gigabit connection you must have a gigabit NIC with a proper driver, a gigabit switch, and a gigabit compatible cable connecting them together.

Yep I have ALL of those and just updated the driver from Realtek, but the staus still shows as 10Mbps

What does the switch status light say? Does it show a gigabit connection? If so, then your OS is wrong.

Could this have anything to do with Gigabit being a trade mark and not an indication of speed? What are the duplex/half duplex settings in its Advanced configuration? Try setting to Auto.

Tried that and also tried setting to 1.0gps, neither work, I have also tried anothe Cat5 cable and still the same, maybe the onboard Realtek NIC is failing for some reason. I did run the test software that Realtek provide and it generated some errors in a couple of the diagnostic fileds (Loopback mainly & IRQ mainly)

I have basically narowed it down to the NIC on my MB, which seems to have become faulty. I have put a NEW NIC in the machine and disabled the onboard NIC and all is now as it should be. Thanks for all your help
