HI everyone, this is not my first build but it's been 5 years since I built my first gaming rig and I have noticed a lot has changed. When I built my first PC i was very happy with it. I remember I came here 5 years ago for advice and people were extremely helpful, so now I’m back
I will mainly use this system to play games and watch videos, my wife will be using it for her school which requires a lot of office type programs up at once. I'm not looking to play crysis on ultra-high settings or anything (I swear they make that damn game just so people buy new hardware) but mainly want to be able to be on par or above the new consoles coming out, since they seem to design the graphics around those anyway nowadays. I know they are not out yet and that would be impossible, but i think it could build something pretty close to what they will be if that makes any sense.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Approximate Purchase Date: By the end of September~~
Budget Range: $1300 or so, I’m flexible but also not willing to go crazy with the newest tech since most of the time it’s overpriced
System Usage from Most to Least Important: future games on at least high for the next 4ish years
Parts Not Required: keyboard, mouse, and monitor
Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg.com
Country of Origin: USA, Florida
Parts Preferences: flexible, not a fan of AMD or Radeon
Overclocking: no, built my last rig for that and I ended up clocking it back, I don't like the bugs and constant tweaking. More often than not I would overclock it, have to reinstall an OS or BIOS, and then have to reteach myself how to freakin do it, stock overclocks are okay. Plus i want this system to last a while.
SLI or Crossfire: maybe if it’s worth it.
Monitor Resolution: 1920 x 1200
Parts list so far on my own
CPU: Intel Core i5-3570 Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel
Comments: I don't know what the difference is with the K and this one, the only thing i noticed different was the internal graphics thing, but if i have a stand-alone does it even matter?
Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Extreme4 LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL
Storage: OCZ Agility 3 AGT3-25SAT3-120G 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250410AS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Comments: the Seagate is my old HD i have in my computer right now and will not be buying that, would these two hard drives work well together? I’m planning on putting all my media files on the old one and my OS and games on the SSD
Video Card: EVGA SuperClocked 02G-P4-3662-KR GeForce GTX 660 Ti 2GB 192-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card
Comments: I really just want 1 video card right now, so in the future when games start becoming more demanding I can throw another one in there and be good for a couple more years. I picked the 660 because the 680's and 690's prices are unreasonable, and I’ve heard the 670 isn't worth the money over a 660ti since it only gives you a 3-5 FPS advantage.
Case: have no idea, whatever works, have a cooler master right now but its beat to *** from moving, nothing flashy whatever gets the job done.
Power Supply: OCZ Stealth Stream OCZ600SXS 600W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready Active PFC Power Supply
Comments: this is my old PSU, i have no idea if it will work, its 5 years old, is it safe to use this?
Thank you all for taking the time to read this, please feel free to criticize, I bought everything off Newegg before but if anyone knows of better prices somewhere else please let me know. In the military and a baby on the way so money saved could greatly be used in other things
