What is your budget?
What are the laptops you are considering?
What games do you play?
How high do you like your settings?

did i call someone "not bright"?i could ask you what a duel core is?
I said your statement was not bright, big difference.
Now why would you ask me what a duel core is?
My point was in a mobile system the difference between an I3 and I5 is almost nothing. Usually 100-300MHz. Same chip, just faster clock. Giving you minimal gain for a huge gain in price.

If your budget isn't limited then you can get XMG laptop with desktop LGA2011 CPU

He's openly mocking your spelling. It's dual, not duel. Duelling is what cowboys in old West were doing.

- my budget is for no more than $700.
- i'm considering the sony S series.
- i only play xbox games. i think pc games could be better, but i dont know. which do u think is better?
- for settings, as high as possible with as little lag as possible.

i have a i7-3610 QM with a gt 650 gpu and i can play all games on high at 1920 x 1080 resolution.try to get i7 QM which is a quad core. For now and future sake. the i5 and some i7 are dual cores.
is there little difference between i5 and i7 in terms of speed? i see some laptops with i5s and theyre cheaper than those with i7s. but if i7s are much faster, i'll consider paying extra.

I7s have 2 more cores than I5s, that means games like Battlefield 3 will run MUCH better.
Post links to the laptops so we can see what you are able to get.

Speeds don't matter as much on laptops, as long as it is 2.3GHz and up.
That laptop will not do for gaming, it does not have a discreet graphics card.

so, i should focus on laptops with at least 2.3Ghz.. cool.
now, heres a link to a dell on ebay. its got dedicated graphics. i assume that discrete and dedicated graphics mean the same thing. heres the link:

The I7 has boost so thats good. BUT the graphics card is still bad. Rather get an I5 with better graphics than I7 with bad graphics.

I agree with many others who have suggested a desktop for gaming instead. You can get a pretty kickass gaming machine for 550 or so + a monitor . .. or you can get an almost usable laptop.
If you have to have a laptop you could try things like http://www.xoticpc.com/msi-cx61-0nf257us-preorder-p-539... or if you can push your budget up a bit then something like http://www.xoticpc.com/force-qal51hd-compal-qal51-p-480... . . .
The first one is the absolute cheapest laptop they have that has a discreet video card and also a 1080p screen. Though if you look at the 500 gaming rig that Tom's did back at the end of 2012 ( http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/budget-gaming-do-it... ) this simple and cheap desktop will simply destroy anything these laptops could do.

Low-priced laptops often don't have one so they are out no matter how fast their CPU cores are.
As far as lag goes in my experience, and for multiplayer games, if the server and/or internet connecton cannot update the system fast enough then it will lag. If the server or your Internet connection lags it does not matter how fast your machine is, it will still lag.
Debates on forums like this are often based on benchmark results and these regularly differ from real-world performance by quite a bit. What really counts more than anything else is how the application actually runs. Watching gameplay on the actual machines is probably a better way to evaluate different hardware than reading about it on a forum.

i dont want a desktop. i want a laptop, even given its gaming limitations. i know there are limits in a laptop. but i dont want to play EVERY game out there cuz i know there are graphic intense games that many laptops cant handle. i just want to play most of the great games smoothly, like, battlefield 3, devil may cry 5 and batman arkham city.
i'm on a budget. looking to spend no more than $670. what good discreet video card should i be looking for in a laptop?

Though the first one I linked is only 699, which is pretty darn close.
Have you considered buying someone's used gaming laptop? Possibly search for refurbished?
As for video cards themselves you are probably looking for an Nvidia 640M, 645M, or 650M or on the AMD side like a 7670M, 7750M, or 7770M. In any of these cases the laptops probably won't fit in to your budget. Below those generally aren't that great for playing games on anyway.

here is a decent laptop. i5 3210M with a gt 645m for $699
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
the resolution is only 1366 x 768 so you shouldnt have any problems playing games

In the lowest price segment AMD has actual GPU cores. Intel's HD Execution Units emulate GPU cores using the CPU cores and some special hardware. This works well for benchmarks which test CPU OR GPU speed but performance declines when the CPU AND GPU are loaded down at the same time as a game might do.
This is one reason why it is so important to see the game running on the same hardware you are planning to purchase. How the software actually runs is what is most important in the end.
