New CPU Old motherboard

Hello,
I wanted to ask if I am able to upgrade my CPU but keep my old Motherboard.

Old CPU: AMD Athlon 5200 Dual-Core 2.30 Ghz
New CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.40 Ghz
Mobo: ECS A885GM-A2
Ram: Crucial Ballistix 6 GB (2GBx3)
GPU: MSI Radeon HD 7770 1GB GDDR5
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 500 GB

The mobo you have is socket AM3, so yes it will support a Phenom II.

check the motherboard makers web page for your mb. Find the cpu support list .
I can probably run the phenom , but it may need a BIOS update first .
