Hello,

I own a gateway fx7024 and am looking for a replacement for my 8800gt which has failed. All of the specs for the computer can be found at:

http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/1015229R/1015229Rsp2....

To summarize the components:

*400W PSU
*G33 Chipset (Core 2 Quad) 2.4 GHz
*500 GB, 7200 RPM, SATA II hard drive
*3072 MB DDR2, 667 MHz, (PC2-5300) dual channel memory
*Samsung 226 CW Monitor - I am not sure what the best resolution would be, but I seem to prefer 1680 x 1050 currently running off of the motherboard integrated graphics.

I am not an avid gamer, but I do miss playing crysis wars online. I don't need to play with all settings at max. I just would like to be able to run the game and compete online again. What available cards would you suggest in terms of reasonable replacement cards that would not be too expensive ( Around $100 - $120, less if possible? ).

Note: I liked my 8800gt because it seemed to match the rest of the hardware nicely. To me, everything seemed well balanced, and no one component seemed "bottlenecked" by another.

Also, I would like to simply go to Bestbuy and pick the card up. So, perhaps a more popular card would be best?

Thanks in advance guys. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I would recommend a 550 if you don't mind paying $130. But if you get it at Bestbuy, it most probably will cost almost $200. If you try getting another GPU at a store, it will always cost more money. You could try getting another 8800 instead.

an 8800gt will be rare to find and will be expensive
and agtx 550ti for 130$ is too expensive ahd 7770 would beat it by a margin of 15-20% at the same price while consuming less power

AMD----- 5750 or 6750

NVIDIA--------- gts 450 or 550

I think the nvidia cards in that price range might be a little faster than the amd but they all are a little better performers than the 8800. Good Luck.

and as suggested above........ BB will rock your wallet. Check out newegg.com.

I can see that they are mostly in the $120 price rance or above. Would I be able to sneak by with the next tier down, such as the gt440 or 6570/6670? To be honest, I would be happy with even medium or low settings on crysis. Just to be able to play at a decent framerate.

It just sucks when I see people with new computers running the game on their integrated hd3000's, and I have to be jealous of that.

Just get a 7750, and call it a day. Uses no external power and is still priced nicely

jealous of what. Intel 3000 on board is junk and so is the 4000. easily beat to hell by amd's APU's. Intel still has a way to go and they won't catch AMD there because the latter is leaps ahead again. You'll soon see when they release the new APU's.
