EVGA GTX 670 vs. Gigabyte 7950

Hello,

Forgive me if i make any kind of noobish mistakes, this is my first thread i have created.

I am interested in upgrading my xfx 6870 to a top notch graphics card, and i believe i have narrowed it down to two cards that are reasonably in my price range, what are your thoughts on what would be a better card?

The EVGA 670:

OR the Gigabyte 7950:

Also i am currently using a thermaltake 650 watt psu, would that be sufficient to run these cards? I know they are advertised for a minimum 500 watt, but i know that it is a rule of thumb to use a little more.

Again, sorry if i made any amateur mistakes, this is my first thread. :wahoo:

  1. 670 is better but i don't know about a thermaltake 650 watt psu maybe these other guys will know most i heard are junk however there are some that are good
  2. GTX 670 is better.

650 W PSU is more than enough to run any of these GPUs

Gigabyte 7950 for $350 on Newegg

Gigabyte GTX 670 for $400 on Newegg
  3. I have no idea why you would use compusa to buy your graphics card... Newegg has the same Gigabyte 7950 for $350. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125414

As for performance, a 7950 overclocked to 1GHz (same as the 7970 speed) will perform very similar if not near identical in some cases to the 7970, which out performs the 670 is just about everything. If you overclocked the 670 you'd get better performance too so really either card is fine but do not buy from compusa.
  4. The 670gtx is bether.
  5. CompUSA is ripping off there

choose anyone of these, u can't go wrong anyway :)
  6. It depends if u willing to O.C the 7950? its cheaper by 50 bucks.

Or u could go to 670 it had better performance for 50 bucks more.
  7. Depends on the games you want to play. The 670 is more powerful but also more expensive.

  8. Okay it seems like the 670 would be a better choice, but the compusa 670 has 4gb, all the links posted here only have 2 gb, would it still be worth the extra dollars?
  9. GTX 670 > HD 7970 in majority of games. Goto newegg and grab a 670
  10. I kinda see how the 670 is better, but what im asking is the 4gb version on compusa worth it? the newegg version is only 2 gb

Do you plan on going 3 monitors in the future? Then the 2GB is plenty

4GB is unnecessary. Especially when you could buy a 7970 that will outperform it and has 3GB of VRAM for the price of that compusa 670...
