I'm pretty sure you don't have trouble because of video memory. What games are you trying to play at what settings?

dawn of war 2, my pc has decided to put graphics on highest, when i try and change them the game crashes then loads up with a pink screen saying "run out of vid mem"

Umm I think it may bugged. Why don't you try reinstalling the game? It's virtually impossible to run out of video memory with that game without bugs.

Only the onboard graphic's memory can be increased. That is by using the system RAM.

In your case, a discrete graphic card, it cannot be increased.

And reinstall your game, Dawn of War 2 is not a demanding game.

tried reinstalling the game, no change, still comes up with "out of vid mem"

could it be a problem with steam client?

Have you changed any settings with the windows virtual memory? If so, change it back to allow windows to manage.

no i havnt

the problem is with an add-on for the game the whole "you must have this game before you are allowed the add-on" thing

dawn of war 2 and dawn of war chaos rising are fine i can lower the graphic settings with no problem, however dawn of war 2 retribution has the problem?

You mean you don't have the game?
July 9, 2012 7:33:10 PM

sorry no i do have the game, chaos rising and retribution are add-ons,

the original dawn of war and dawn of war chaos rising work fine i can change the graphics with no problem, its the retribution add-on that has the problem

my query is that why am i running out of video memory when i try and weaken the graphics

and, that it works fine with the other game add-on (chaos rising)

That's strange. I'd try posting in the game creator forums. I'm afraid it's game related.

yes, surly it would run out of memory when i try and increase the graphics though? not when i try and weaken them, will do il see what steam have to say

many thanks for the help regardless

No, you should not even get that error when you're at absolute maximum settings.
July 9, 2012 9:07:31 PM

yeah i no, when the graphics are on max the game lags like a b*tch im assuming because apparently there's no video memory, when i try and lower the graphics a big pink screen comes up at the main menu saying im out video memory, then in the actual game it just goes back to the high settings-more lagging

man for better graphics buy 2gb better graphics such as hd 6670,gtx 650,etc

I think it may be that when you change your settings the video card doesn't unload the previous graphics fast enough, try finding the file the settings save to and changing them there.
