So I'm building a gaming rig for my friend. $900 budget for the desktop and monitor. He agrees to get an ssd first and buy a hard drive on black friday later. I live in the US and I'm by microcenter. His college is providing him with a copy of windows so we're fine on that. ($900 includes monitor) Accessories are NOT included on the budget, but he would still like to find one. This build is most likely going to be upgradable in the future. I'm deciding to get the K version of the cpu because I was planning on overclocking it, however he might need it. But I decided it was only 20 dollars more and when the time comes when his comp slows down he can cf and overclock his cpu.

What I already got -

Radeon 6870 - $166.49 ($136.49 after mir)

Intel DDR3 - $38.25

And I got this powersupply, I was planning on using this for my own small build, but I was wondering if it would be fine to use this for him as well? Or should I get a 600w psu from coolermaster or maybe a modstream one.

Antec 400 watt psu - $50.99 ($10.99 after mir)

Here is what I'm planning to get, all promo codes end today. - EDIT Promo codes expired

DVD Drive - $19.99

600 watt coolermaster psu - $85 ($60 after mir)

Motherboard - $119.99 ($90 after mir)

i5-2500k - $219.99

Total is $688.68. It will be $603 after mail in rebate. So I have $300 to spend on a monitor, ssd and case.

I was planning on getting this monitor.

Asus Be248H - $179.99 ($164.99 after mir)

So any deals on ssds and/or nice looking cases? I'm planning on finishing this build this week before he heads off to college.

EDIT - Going to wait for a samsung 830 for the ssd. And I might go to microcenter to get the 3570k for 189.99 with the asrock extreme 4 for 84.99 (If I'm lucky to get 50 dollar off promo) even less!

Couple of things, pending getting links working:
400W PSU unlikely to be enough, probably need 500+. Suggest get the 600W, and have bit in hand.
Gskill RAMs probably OK. Depending what CPU cooler you are using, may need low profile RAM.
Is there particular reason for 2500K CPU. In most respects i5-3570K is better, and usually little difference in price. Obviously, ideal motherboard depends on which CPU you use.
Only help I can give without links working.

Links work, and I read the reviews on that psu. It has a +12v rail and there are those who have a 6870 in their rig running on this psu. But I guess I'll spend a little extra anyways for future upgradability.

I decided to go with the 2500k because motherboard was cheaper. And 2500k after oced is faster than the 3570k. I've built a 3570k rig before, but that was because my friend didn't play much games and the HD4000 is REALLY good. Unless I can find a cheap deal for a z77 motherboard I'll stick to this.

Yea I might just do that. I didn't realize the extreme 4 was so cheap. I thought it would be 139.99. Does microcenter have the 50 dollar off promo? If it is then I'd have enough to put more money for a better monitor.

Oh and for the gpu, I already got the 6870 for 130 after mir.

If I'm able to get it with the 85 asrock that would be an amazing deal, but like you said it only is for "certain" motherboards.

The extreme4 for $85 is already $50 off. You buy the processor for $189.99 when you add the mobo instead of paying $134.99 for it you pay $84.99. It will be ~$300 for both after taxes which is a really awesome deal.
