Approximate Purchase Date: either this week and within the next three months

Budget Range: 1000, (looking at new eggs payment plan in which case I would go to 1200)

System Usage from Most to Least Important: gaming, I sometimes do image editing from home, so it will be used for this as well but its less important as I will usually just be using my computer at work

Are you buying a monitor: Yes / No (I have a monitor so I could easily not do it to save cash, but with the new egg thing I might just upgrade the whole system)

Parts to Upgrade: everything EXCEPT keyboard and mouse (unless I snag a cheap one) HDD and 2 optical drives.
The keyboard, mouse, and drives are from dell. Unless they wont work with the new system I would like to ignore this cost.

Do you need to buy OS: Yes

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: new egg for the payment plan, otherwise It wouldnt matter. I do not live next to a microcenter unfortunately because my goodness what deals.

Location: Salem Oregon

Parts Preferences: like intel and nvidia. Not sure why Ive always liked nvidia better, no real reason, just more familiar with the name conventions I guess.

Overclocking: maybe but probably not

SLI or Crossfire: no probably not

Your Monitor Resolution: 1680x1050 is my current monitor, so Id like to upgrade to a 1900 but if not then I can always hook up to TV when I want to blow my mind

Additional Comments: quiet PC would be nice, but as long as it doesnt sound like a jet engine taking off everytime I move the mouse im sure Ill be ok

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: my dell vista comp has taken a turn for the worse. HDD crashed, been trying to reinstall windows back on the machine, but without success. Not sure exactly what I am missing, having help to try to fix it.

If I can fix it I would move my build date back to somewhere along the lines of november when I could possibly make use of Black friday/monday to get some lower cost.

DO you guys see a lot of great deals on that monday from online stores? Should I consider waiting to take part in those deals?

Here is the PC part picker info
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/fP9C

Most of the items have specials on new egg right now, so I think this build comes out to be around a 1000 after rebates and what not

A FEW QUESTIONS ABOUT PARTS:
Please look over build for compatibility issues or bottlenecks, and even possible parts I want to avoid.

RAM
1. Not really sure what RAM to get. Just picked the G Skill because I see it in a lot of builds.
Would the heat Spreaders cause issues in the case?
2.are these good timings or latency on this RAM? what should I be looking for?
3. Does this voltage work with the mobo?

Monitor
1.the one I selected for the build seems to have more reviews but I was also looking at this monitor. Which is better? I am a little unsure about what the numbers mean and how they translate to what we see.

Asus VH242H
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236052

SSD

1.The vertex looks pretty good, but also came across this SSD which would be better the one in my build or this one? or perhaps another?

OCZ Agility 3
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227726

and last but not least

PSU
1. I had an OCZ PSU once and it worked for almost a year but I heard maybe now they are better, who knows. I think cooler master is a subsidiary of corsair or something but I am not sure. The OCZ comes with a free dvd burner but that seems like people selling loads of crap and putting bows on it.
ANyway, thought I would list both so that I could make an informed decision.
I am also open to other PSUs

Here is the OCZ
OCZ modXstream Pro

Thanks for any info,

Your original build looks decent to me but if you plan to oc that 3570k which its a shame not to Then I would suggest a cpu cooler like the COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099 .

I would go with a faster more reliable SSD like the SAMSUNG 830 Series MZ-7PC128D/AM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147134

I would also switch to a low profile ram like the G.SKILL Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231546

You might want a small 500gb hd if you need storage space.

The upgrades up the cost a little bit but in the long run I think its worth it.

thanks zulug

Ill pick up that cooler for sure. and appreciate your advice about the RAM and SSD.
So the samsung is a better SSD? I think I heard samsung actually makes good SSD.

As for the RAM, what is the difference, I mean I see the difference but like technically what is the difference?

dharris

thanks for your build tips but its not what I am looking for. I see that you made a build under 1200 but if I am going to order now I am looking to do it only through new egg to take part of their financing thing. Else I will wait till november black friday monday deals.

appreciate the time you spent.

Also I have two back up hard drives so I wont need to get any HDD

some ram kits don't fit underneath the cpu cooler the low profile ram is shorter so it fits otherwise you might not be able to use some of the ram slots on your mobo. Also different Ram kits have different timings from what i have read 1600 9-9-9 is what you want for a good mid range cost ram kit.

ahhh

I see, I was getting that confused, so shorter profile is simply the rams silhouette I was thinking you were talking about timings.

Which is the best type of ram? and is lower timing better?

and what about case latency higher lower better? what does this number refer to?

You can find all of these things on Newegg, possibly even improvise some. You should look carefully at the build, it is pretty solid.

And Your Welcome.

I will definitely look over the builds that get posted here and take into consideration any suggestions.

But I do like learning a bit of stuff or figuring out why things might not work well together. So any reasoning behind advice or suggestion is really appreciated,

as well as critiques of my build. Or reasons why I shouldnt pick up what I thought I should.

thanks everyone for the feedback

thanks for the info dharris

ill look at that cooler, maybe the PSU, like the case, but I think I might like the roswell case a little better. I am going to need to check space for which monitor I will eventually get. Looks like the one in your build is exactly the same as the one I picked but a little smaller so thats cool.

any other tips or does anyone else see anything wrong with the build I listed or any critiques or things I need to be aware of.

case - rosewill challenger

psu - antec 500w http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371035 antec makes a better psu than cooler master does and 500w is more than enough for your build

monitor - asus ve228h 21.5" http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236100 Got some really good reviews 9.3 out of 10 on this site http://www.testfreaks.com/monitors/asus-ve228h/
