i know the hd 5850 was released in 2009 i know its old but is it still a good card to run latest games with decent settings and can it run WoW on ultra with good frame rate? i ask this because i bought one from a friend for £30 and it seemed like a good deal

That is a good deal. A friend of mine played WoW on highest with an 5850 for several years...and he paid a lot more for it at the time.

Should be fine for medium maybe even some a bit higher. I'm a sucker for 60fps so running skyrim on high right now with a 6950(5870). The 5850 is marginally slower than a 5870 so it should suffice (btw the price is pretty damn good).

An HD 5850 is stronger than my GTX 460 1GB by just a bit and I can max Skyrim at 1920 x 1080 even with the high res texture pack. Skyrim does like a strong CPU too though.

I recently upgraded from a 5850 to a 7950. The only reason I did the upgrade was because I run an EyeFinity setup, if not for this the 5850 would have had more than enough power to keep it a viable option for another year if not more. I originally got my 5850 the month it was released in 09 and even to this day will say its a GREAT card. If not at EyeFinity resolution its powerful enough to run high if not max settings on most games. If you can get your hands on another used one and crossfire you would have as much power as the latest cards out, just with less Vram.

i would like to go crossfire but i built my pc on a tight budget (only 17 years old dont have a job lol) so i have this motherboard http://uk.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM3Plus/M5A78LM_LX/ is it possible to run eyefinity on the hd 5850?

I've got a pair of 5850s and they kick ass. I also ran Eyefinity for a little while on them, worked fine, but the 1gb is a bit of a limiter. At 1080p though, the pair of them max out games with solid framerates (50+)
