A program installer reported an I/O error with the F: drive on my ASUS G73JH laptop. I tried opening F: in explorer; it soon choked and crashed.
Upon booting I now have two options: boot up normally (which only gets me a quick BSOD) or running Windows Startup Repair (or whatever it's called). Startup repair asks for a system image. I have none.
The user's manual says if I press F9 during boot, it will allow me access to the restore partition, but this doesn't happen; it just goes to a blinking cursor and I have to Ctrl-Alt-Del.
Is there any other way I could access the restore partition? I'm willing to accept that my files are toast but I really don't want to have to RTM just to reinstall Windows 7.
