Okay, well here's my current build:

CPU: Phenom II x4 840 (lack of L3 Cache)
GPU: MSI GTX 460 (Old card)
RAM: 8GB
PSU: 600W
Mobo: Biostar A880GZ (no overclocking ability, I believe)

I'm looking to spend about $100.00 in upgrades, and I can get maybe $100-110 for my GPU, and $100-120 for my CPU, so I'm pretty much working with about $300 for a new CPU/GPU.

I know this is the cpu thread, I wasn't sure where to put it. So could anyone tell me any good processors and GPUs for gaming? I've been looking at a Phenom X4 965 and a Radeon HD 7850, but I heard the 965 wasn't too much of an upgrade from the 840. So input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I use this build for gaming.

Your current cpu is good.it is better to get new gpu like hd 7850.upgrade to 965 is not worth if you already have x4 840.

You can upgrade the GPU but your CPU will be bottlenecking it, so you may wanna get a new cooler so you can overclock your CPU high enough to reduce the bottleneck - otherwise, I would save up to replace the whole thing.

Thanks for the replies. For some reason, I can't find the over clocking options anywhere in my BIOS or online :(

7850 should work well with your cpu even without overclocking
