So I'm looking to upgrade my CPU and I found a Phenom II X4 965 on sale but I'm wondering if it will work in my A780VM-M2 Motherboard. The motherboard is AM2+ and on the site it has the AM3 Phenom II X4 CPU's listed from the 805 up to the 960T. I don't know if the website just isn't updated yet or if it's not compatible. If it isn't then I'm looking for a Quad Core with over 3.0Ghz for under $100 so any suggestions would help. I mainly use my computer for gaming.

This is the CPU support list for that motherboard and the 965 is not on there so no it won't work.

The 965 uses too much power. Power regulation circuits on that board are limited to 95 watts. So pick one off the boards support list. Plenty of good cpu on that list.
