Title says it all.

I sent in my 5970 to Sapphire for repair. They have a two week turn around policy. After not hearing anything from them for a month, I contacted them and found out that my replacement card is "on its way from Sapphire Hong Kong, and should be in early next week. However, we can ship you a 6970 today. Please see the picture below and contact us with your decision."

a 6970 for a 5970? The 5970 is a dual gpu card, the 6970 is a single gpu card. I told them I would be more patient and wait for the 5970 because I think it is the better card... did I make the right decision?

You made the right call, man. Even if we just look at sheer number of stream processors 3200 (5970) vs 1536 (6970), it should be very clear that there is definitely a discrepancy in performance. If I had to make a rough guesstimate as to the performance of a 6970 vs a 5970, I'd say it'd perform somewhere around 60-70% of the performance of a 5970.

Granted, the 5970 will also use more power and create more heat, but it definitely performs significantly higher.

I know the names are a little misleading. When the 6000 series was announced and AMD indicated the flagships would be in the 6900 series, people were upset. The 5870 had been the previous flagship, and the 4870 before that. But, 5970, definitely better.
