Computer doesn't recognize new CPU

Ok I just installed a new AMD Phenom ii x4 965 and my computer doesn't seem to recognize it and also when I am trying to run a MMO it keeps telling me that i dont have enough video memory and then i get an error message. I'm very new to the whole CPU install process and I dont understand how to update BIOS if thats what I need to do so sorry for my incompetence on this issue. Also when I try and run CPU-Z it crashes and send my comps screen to a gray and black line screen.

My comp setup

Windows 7 64 bit
AMD phenom ii x4 965 <--- this is what im having issues with switched from a AMD Phenom 9600
500W corsair PSU
msinfo32 shows BIOS at 7B3G1P04 which is default BIOS from my original CPU
my mobo shows AM2+ capable as well on the manufacturers website sorry i cant provide this mobo model atm since CPU-Z keeps crahing

Well first of all you will have to check the manufacturers website if the CPU is supported and what BIOS you need. Then download the BIOS and follow the instructions from the manufacturer on how to update the BIOS.

Is it a Gateway? If so you might be out of luck since they do not provide the same BIOS support as board manufacturers. You will have to look under the model of your machine at their website.

yes I believe this is a gateway mobo this is a 2008 system

I have since these specs installed a new 500W corsair PSU, AMD redeon HD 7770, and now the AMD Phenom ii x4 965

you are trying to run a CPU that draw 125W in a mobo that is good for 95W for phenom...

so basically i need a new motherboard? Can you point me in a good direction of motherboards that will fit my setup?

look online for motherboard that support AM2+ cpu up to 125w. you hav DDR2 memory I guess, so search for that.

Well hard to say what to do but with a new motherboard it will work but windows license becomes a question (OEM) and getting a new board you might as well go for DDR3 support.

When u say windows license you mean for windows 7? and if so doe that mean i have to repurchase windows 7?

Technically if YOU have a license that came with the computer then it is an OEM only to be used on that machine. If you bought a full retail version it is a none issue.
