Do NOT get the Z77 OC Formula. It's a total waste. Go for the Asus Maximus V Formula instead. It's the BEST, THE BESTEST actually, that you can get. (The Maximus IV Extreme-Z is for LGA2011, the i5 2500k is LGA1155)

CPU: Go for i5 3570K
RAM: Get G.Skill RipJaws X 1600Mhz instead. (Save some money)
PSU: Don't spend too much on PSU. 700 is MORE than enough.
SSD: GREAT if you can spend that much haha.
HDD: Get the Seagate Momentus XT instead.
Cooling: It's great :) I have it.

Make sure you have a nice case :)

-why would the z77 oc formule be a waste?
-im for extreme OC'ing and 2500k fits perfectly in it
-1600 vs 2133, is the difference noticeable?
-ill be using two radeon hd7970 in the future, so i think i need more than 700w

-the case would be a silverstone ft-02 you think it would fit in it?

For extreme overclocking, go for the Asus Maximus V Extreme - I have it and it's the best thing out there. The OC Formula doesn't even TOUCH the Extreme in terms of OC performance. The only AMAZING OC motherboards out there are The Maximus V Extreme (Which is the best) and the MSI Big Bang MPower.

Okay, for overclocking, the 2500K is great. So is a 3570K. Buying a 3570K would make more sense as both the Maximus V Extreme and the Big Bang MPower and built FOR Ivy Bridge.

1600 vs 2133? Nope, not much. Just by 0.06 seconds. You can always overclock your 1600RAM to upto 2600 without fiddling much.

For running two 7970, a 850w would be enough.

Case - Yes, the Asus Maximus V Extreme and the Big Bang MPower both would be able to fit in the case.

If you don't want to spend $379 for the Extreme, then go for the Asus Maximus V Formula which is for $279. That's another board which is really good for OCers. The fusionthermo thing implemented on the Formula is one of the best ROG innovations.

:)

1: i dont see the point of extreme oc. you wont see too much of a difference between 4.2ghz and 4.8ghz unless you are under a benchmark. either stick with the msi mpower, z77-v pro, or the maximus v formula. the extreme is for extreme ln2 benching or a very high end custom loop
2:any ram above 1600mhz voids your intel warranty.just saying. if you do happen to overclock your memory, buy intel oc warranty for 30 bucks

that was helpful! so ill go with 3570k to utilise also the pcie 3, still trying to see why i would need 800w wouldnt that be little?anyhow im torn between the formula and the extreme :/

I correct you there. The Extreme is better for OCing but yes, you'll only get a difference of about 200Mhz or so max.

If you REALLY wanna overclock HARD with all those cooling pipes and thermal compound/cloth thing then go with the Extreme. Otherwise, go with the Formula.

Go for the Formula. I asked the JJ ASUS guy. He said the formula would be a better option until unless you wanna stick 4 graphic cards on your board in the future. (Which I want to, glad I made the right choice)

either way, just get the formula.

adding video cards dont always result in extra performance as games dont always scale well. 2 way would result in nearly 90% scaling. after that you see 50-70% and when you add a 4th card, it could actually reduce performance as games cant use it
