Yeah, these are basic, but I can't figure them out.

1) How do you put an item in a chat comment like [this] so that it can
be clicked on for a description?

2) Can a stack of multiple items be split? If so, how?

Thanks in advance.

shift-click. It doesn't work in /general. Useful in /trade.

shift-click. You get a dialog asking how many you want. Move (3) of
them to another slot.

Sadly, you can't drag only-3 items (of a stack of 10) to the trade or
auction window, you have to do 2 steps of splitting the stack, first.

SHIFT is your friend! It turns out to answer both of your questions...
when you have a chat line open, just shift-rightclick an item to link
it, and to split a stack just shift-click to open the "split stack"
dialog (but don't try to move the resulting partial stack directly into
a trade window, which oddly does not work).

This is correct, but note that the chat box has to be open when you
shift-click the item.

Enter your message and shift-left-click it. Also works for items you are
wearing. (even soulbound I think)

Also with shift-left or? right-click. Enter je number and put it in an
empty slot.

Note that the next patch will have wardrobe added in which you can
ctrl-left-click an item to see what it looks like!

you can also /yell (shift click item) for trade - useful in areas with no
trade channel. esp if they are quest related items that you have extra of.
There's somethings in the barrens you can get extra of.

I love using shift-right-click to loot corpses and chests - it grabs
everything in one click. Very useful and time-saving.
