I recently got GTA 4 for PC. And I ran a benchmark and it said I get 38 fps. But when I run fraps its like 23 fps. Highest it has been is 48 (when im inside a building) when im outside its around 23. When i drive its 18 fps. Is there any way I can get faster fps for GTA? I play High Quality on 1600x900.

I have:
Sapphire Radeon HD6870
4GB of RAM
AMD Athlon II X2 255 Processor 3.10 Ghz
64 bit os

Any Quad Core CPU will make the game run smoother also, remember update the game to the last patch, which comes with tons of fixes and optimizations to run the game more smoothly...

If you have that processor, a Phenom II x4 95w like the one I have would be a good upgrade untill you get some money to get newer tech... Otherwise if you can upgrade mobo+CPU it will be even better!

What Settings are you Running?

GTA IV is processor hog.

You need a Quad Core to run it smoother, But you could try overclocking to 3.5 or 3.6 (FSB 250 x 14 or 14.5) without voltage changes. You need an aftermarket cooler if you will go higher than that.

I got same Processor but lower clocked.

Athlon II X2 245 2.9ghz and HD 6670 GDDR5.

I get 30-32 Fps in benchmarks most of the time (Settings All High- Sliders 25). When i overclocked it to 3.5ghz with stock voltage. I gained 8-9 Fps in benchmarks. Around 25-35 Fps in Real Time Gaming.

I could be, but not all AM3+ Motherboard support 125W processors. I had an MSI 970 G45 which only supported 95W processors. So I couldnt go wih any better than the phenom i have...

So, you better get an FX4100, or a Phenom II x4 of 95W TDP ! So well, You should use CPU ID and add more info, if you can add everything that it says or even a good screen shoot would be easier !
