I think it should since the 8800GTX (G80) was the first generation of the unified shaders and has 128 Cuda cores. It should support PhysX being one of the first to do so.

Supporting PhysX at the hardware level and supporting PhysX at the driver level are two different things.

I have an HP xw9400 workstation that came with a Quadro fx 4600. I put a GTX 460 2gb in as the primary card and the Quadro fx 4600 as Dedicated PhysX. While playing Mirror's Edge I get increase of 7fps in this arrangement with little to no slowdown in Physx heavy areas. For a stronger gpu, you would need a stronger card to dedicate to PhysX, but with a 9600gt the Quadro fx 4600 is plenty strong enough. In fact, the fx 4600 is actually a stronger card than the 9600gt. I'd say run the Quadro as your display, the 9600 gt as PhysX.
