7870 plus new processor

Hello everyone,

Right now, i have a gigabyte 7870. My cpu, however isnt the best with this video card and i would like to upgrade asap.

My current cpu is the AMD athlon ll x4 640.

I would like to know how much of a performance increase i would get if i bought an AMD FX-8320 or 8350.

Gaming is pretty much #1 priority, i like to record alot of my gameplay and make edit them for montages, etc etc.

I am trying to keep it under 300$ for a motherboard and a cpu.

If you have any suggestions for cpus, or motherboards please reply, and i would like to know how much better games would play with a new cpu rather than my current one.

Thanks!

More about 7870 processor
  1. With that GPU A decent amount

I had the same CPU and went to a Phenom II x4 965 BE for £50 and noticed a major difference in BF3 / WoW raiding Mainly but other games had a nice FPS boost (I Have a 7850)

    BF3 for example

    Athlon II x4 640 & 7850 @ 1080p / Low I got around 40-50fps avg in 64man with nasty dips into 30's
    Phenom II x4 965 @ 3.8ghz & 7850 @ 2560x1400 Ultra texture, rest medium 55+ AVG fps 64man servers min 45ish

    as for motherboard

I'm a huge fan of Asus motherboards. Sabertooth/Crosshair are both nice but pricey

for your price range possibly Asrock 990FX Extreme 3
