I there a way to force a window to open the same each time it is accesed? I
am refereing to the windows update IE window. I have the folder options set
to remember each folders view settings. When I open an IE window from the
IE shortcut the window opens in full screen view, which is what I want.
When opening the windows update shortcut the window comes up with various
sizes and in different places. I am running windows xp pro w/ sp2

Thanks for the info, but that is not what I was looking for. Apparently I
mispoke. I want the window to open maximized each time , not in full screen
mode. Thanks in advance

This problem can occur in Internet explorer. You could try manually resizing
the window to start with. By that i mean 'stretching' the window top and
bottom with yuor mouse to fill the screen. *Do Not* use the maximise button.
You must manually stretch the screen to fit yuor monitor. Then click the X
button at the top right hand corner to close the window then try opening
internet explorer again. This isn't a foolproof method but it has been
successful with some people.

Only the first IE window opened can be maximised. All others use the
"normal" size and the arbitrary position chosen by Windows. Since the last
IE window closed determines how the first opens, you must ensure the
maximised window is closed last. Closing a normal window determines how the
next window (or link) will open.

Although you can't open all IE windows maximised, you can open them all in
normal mode but resized to fill the screen. To do this, simply open just one
instance of IE (close all other windows), then right-click the taskbar and
choose Tile Vertically (or Tile Horizontally). The window will then fill the
screen above the taskbar. Close the window to save this style. All instances
of IE will then open in this style.

Unfortunately, too many web pages use scripts to over-ride browser window
placement and size, so it rarely sticks (you have to repeat the above to
re-instate the default style).

The best alternative is to use third-party background software to
automatically resize windows (not just IE windows), based upon their title
(or part of their title). Since IE windows normally include the default text
"Microsoft Internet Explorer", you can use this to identify your IE windows.
If you've set your own custom title, you can use this instead. Some graphics
drivers also include software to size and position your windows, although
they're primarily intended for multiple-display purposes.
