Unknown Game Lag.

Recently started getting movement freezes and FPS drops in "higher stress" areas of the games. I play Lord of The Rings Online and in raids, in PvP and in I guess populated areas I lag about, jumping around. I've changed my GPU, didn't do anything, so instead tried to changing my CPU today. For about 20-30 minutes I was lag free. Then it all came back again.

I'm running

Mobo - ASUS M5A97 PRO
CPU - AMD Phenom II X4 965
GPU - AMD Radeon HD 6700 Series
RAM - 16.0 GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 802MHz

Game being booted off my OCZ 120GB SSD - 112GB OCZ-AGILITY3 ATA Device (SSD)

Any ideas as to what I can do to fix this?

1)install the latest drivers 2)update your bios 3)update the game patch to latest 4) try to set vsync to off in games 5)or reinstall the windows. Hope this will solve your problem.

About the time of the lag, my CPU fan got so much louder, then about 10 minutes later my PC froze all together with that awful sound it makes. So took the case apart, took my fan off the the CPU was stuck to the thermal paste on the fan. Now I know for fact it was locked in place before I put the fan on as I always check, clicked in, leaver down, not moving. What can cause it get out of that fairly tight lock?! Lag has since gone again, need to make sure my CPU stays in place.

Try it again and carefully handle the leaver or you google it

This lag is worse than it was with my old CPU which was worse, FX Series -4 4100. The lag went and came back worse, what is going on?!
