I want to thank everyone who gave me advice on a tripod. UPS delivered a
Manfrotto 3021BPro legs and a Manfrotto 488RC4 Midi Ball Head. I spent a
bit more then I wanted but I'm happy I did. I'm very impressed; much
better then the Slik 504QF I've been using. I love the leg spread and the
ability to put the center pole in the horizontal position. The head is
bigger then I expected but I like it too. The quick snap connector is great
and very secure. The ball head will take some getting used to but I can
clearly see it's advantages over a 3-way.
On the down side it's a bit heavier then I wanted but I knew that going in.
I wish I could have afforded carbon fiber. I was surprised that the quick
connect plate has to be secured with a screwdriver. I'm used to just
putting the plate on when needed and not leaving it on permanently. Luckily
its thin so leaving it attached isn't really a big deal.

Thanks Stacey, I have a strap which can be short enough for hand carrying
and long enough to go over my shoulder.

The reason I like this one: It attaches via a d ring with a special screw to
the side of where the legs attach on one end and has a loop to go around
the legs on the other. The way it fits, of course, is perfect for their
tripod and balances nice. Also is real easy and quick to lash on and off.
I tried a generic carry strap trying to save the $25 this other one costs
and now kick myself for using that other one for so long. Just thought I'd
pass this advice along, feel free to kick youself later as I now do! :-)
