If you go the Nvidia route, I would opt for a 4GB GTX 670/680 as the VRAM on the 2GB will not be enough for smooth gameplay. Its pretty neck to neck with the 7970, but also has PhysX, adaptive VSYNC and such that the AMD GPUs do not have. I would go for the GTX 670 4GB as its cheaper and performs close to the 7970 and even beats it in some games.

The 7970 is known to perform very well at extreme resolutions. The latest 12.7 drivers push the performance ahead of the 680 with a 1000Mhz core clock. 3GB of RAM is useful in games like skyrim where you can exceed 2GB on 1920x1080 using steam mods for higher environment details.

From personal experience I have had no problems maxing out these games and getting fantastic fps :) .

Out of the cards you listed go with the 7970's. I run BF3 at 5760x1080 and have a seperate LCD that I use to monitor stats (CPU/GPU Temp, utilization, fan speeds, memory etc..). BF3 at EyeFinity resolutions does use over 2 gigs of Vram. For this reason alone, avoid the 670's unless you go with the 4gb edition. A 7970 is a great card for running high resolutions but wont let you max out games at that resolution even with all its power. For that you'd need crossfire.

Why does everyone like to recommend the 4GB version of Kepler?? Kepler is held back by its 256 memory bus. The difference between the 2GB and 4GB is a joke. In this case the 7970 is your best option
