StillDigital images are licensed according their use, size and print
quantity. There are four license types - Promotional, Editorial,
Display and On-screen.

The creation of the digital file is a crucial part of the StillDigital
site. After careful selection, each transparency is removed from its
holder and carefully cleaned and mounted onto the scanning drum using a
special gel that assists the removal of of naturally occurring
photographic grain and abrasions on the surface of the emulsion.

When it comes to image quality, drum scanners continue to excel due to
their ability to capture the maximum density range from the original,
and for this reason all the images in the StillDigital site have been
scanned this way. Every image is individually assessed for colour and
density range, and scanned with a small degree of electronic sharpness
and smoothness added to improve the appearance of the image.

The StillDigital database and web server are situated within Marshall
Thompson's imaging facility in Edinburgh and operated by craftsmen
with many years of experience in colour image management.
